RA-RA-RALEIGH!!!!! OH-OH-OH-BEE-ASS!!!!
HEY GUYS :DGEN IS BAAAAAAACK!
I wonder who waited for me to do a "WOWWEE I'M BACK FROM OBS AND IT'S BEEN AWESOME BLAHBLAHBLAH" post. O.o ?
Whatever. Heeheee.
OKAY!
For the FIRST TIME in like, 6 days or so, my fingernails have been cut and are short and clean and nail-polished! Uhm, well the right-hand nails look horrendous, but screw it I can't find the nail polish remover. My hair is properly clean and I have slept 12 hours already.
I FEEL CLEAAAAAAN :D
OBS was a great-tastic experience, and any initial doubts and hesitations of it has all been cleared and it's like, WOOOHOOO I LOVED IT!
And OF COURSE, OBS wouldn't have been
THIS AWESOME without the COMPANY right?
All thanks to JUN YI, GAYA, CHERY YEOW, AMANDA LIM, JOANNE, SHARNE, SHAHID, EMMANUEL, JOEL LIM, IVAN, JEREMY, ZHENGYU, MINH DA HOTGUY, WENBO AAAAAND QIANYI that I have thouroughly enjoyed the 5 days!
GO GO GO
RALEIGH!
FIRST DAY THERE!Kill me please, cause I'd initially thought that I'd hate OBS or never survive those 5 days or something the like. Tonnes glad that it had proved me wrong. (:
After the mad rush of the previous night trying to stuff all the camping sheez into 2 bags cause I ran outta space in the first one, I hope I hadn't forgotten anything half way. Thankgoodness I didn't. PHEW.
Most of us met in school before heading off to Punggol Jetty to catch a ferry down to the OBS campsite. Watch 5 became named as RALEIGH, and we got MEI SZE as our instructor. She's awesome. :D
Took a group photo before we were ferried down to the actual campsite, where we started off playing ice-breakers and such and unpacking the stalls. Had to count all the dirty tents and ponchos and whatevs.
First official OBS activity was
Trust Fall.
I was completely freaked over this. Cause I'm not the lightest feather in the group, I WAS SUPER AFRAID THEY WOULD ALL DROP ME OKAY GOSH. Then I'd go crashing to the ground and maybe break my spine or something and be sent home, GAH.
Hahaha, thankgoodness I got over it and just sucked it up to do it. I think I trust my watchmates more after that, COOL :D
I remember we were given food rations for B/L/D per day, then we had to sort out through plastic bags and plastic boxes for the exact amount of rations per person. It was hella confusing okay LOL. Mostly we had Dry Rations like, bread biscuits and whatnots for breakfast and lunch. Dinner was usually tuna or maggie mee and stuff like that.
Thenafter, we had belaying practice.
The command to say to the belayer when the rope gets too taught is "THAT'S ME", and LOL don't ask me why I couldn't stop laughing after every time that was said xD
It was pretty late after we all had finished bathing, and Mei Sze was black-facing us and all that.
Whoops.
So, it ended up that we had to pitch tents and cook in the dark while all other groups had finished doing all that. But still, it was pretty fun! :D
NOW I CAN SAY I FINALLY KNOW HOW TO COOK RICE WITHOUT A RICE COOKER WHOOT.
Day 1, zero mozzie bites. WHOO!
The other 4 girls and I were discussing retared things in the tent cause it was waay too hot and humid to sleep in the beginning. We said stuff like, hooker in the tent! Cause there was this hook that I noticed at the top of the tent and they were all saying how they wished there was a fan to put in the tent. I suggested hanging a fan on the hook. Conversation progressed to how a hooker has many fans, HAHHAA.
At least I fell asleep on a happy note :D
DAY WUN TOO.We trekked in the early morning with freaking heavy bagpacks and Tenzing to Camp 1 from Camp 2.
Camp 1 was a concrete heaven. I could bow down to the awesome toilets.
Okay i'm joking, but you get the message. xD
First activity was ROCK CLIMBING :D
I loveeee this. I tried climbing the vertical/incline-out rock wall. Glad to say that I climbed pretty high up :D Although I didn't finish the wall, it was still quite an achievement okay! :D
Emman and Joel (Ng) and Beverly did pretty good heights on the vertical/incline-out wall. COOL! :D
We had lunch, and Praveer asked Gaya (in hindi) to marry him over a piece of Green Apple Cream Bread.
ROMANTIC TO THE MAX HAHHAHA.
Kayaking practice after lunch.
I was super excited, because I'd never actually kayaked before. During P5 camp we were disallowed to kayak because of strong winds/waves, and in Sec1 camp I had a white-out spell so was forced to rest while the rest kayaked. >:(
Anyway, it was fun! Although the sea was hella dirty. I saw shoes and dead fishes ew.
I think I fail at the capsizing part cause... I can't see no shit without my specs hahaha.
Then while waiting for the rest to complete with the lesson, the guys and I were looking at CRABS! Super exciting okay! Purple and bright red ones on the rocks. COOL! Jun Yi kept kachiao-ing them. TSK!
Washed up for dinner. Thankgoodness we didn't have to cook it this time round!
So dumb, I wore short pants w/out insect repellent and served dinner for 2 mosquitos. Damn it.
BUT HEY I KILLED THREE OF THOSE BLASTED THINGS WHOO. :D
One of them had already contentedly sucked up so much of my blood that when I squashed it, MY BLOOD squirted out.
Gross.
The guys were all eating machines okay! Eat so much rice. See the height of food piled onto Joel's plate, I'm impressed wow.
We were all briefed on our Sea Expedition the next day, and I got chosen as a Sea Ex. leader along with Joel (Lim) and Amanda Lim and Yu Jian.
Discussed the routes(clockwise) and positions to assume in the diamond formation out at sea (Navigator, Starboard, Sweeper, Portside) while the others went for (supposedly) supper and pack up the remaining things and shit, if possible.
Had to race-pitch tents with Tenzing in the dark again.
DAY TROIS.SEA EXPEDITION DAAAAY.
As usual, we all were late for schedule again.
Whoops.
WE KAYAKED FOR 8-AND-A-HALF HOURS. :O
Ocean, mangroves, ocean. We got lost countless of times in the stupid mangroves.
And we all became mud piles after the first portage - mud.
Gross.
The white shirt that I had over my head became stained with brown mud all over and I turned from Mother Theresa into Majid Theresa.
Awesome.
Some OBS photographers came to take photos of us at around the second portage - road. Thankgoodness it was non-muddy. Lucky! We followed the speedboat out and headed straight for the ocean again!
But the wind was super strong and completely NOT in our direction AT ALL so we took a freaking long time to paddle back to Camp 1. Whenever we stopped paddling for 5 mins or so, we drifted back to where we were possibly 15mins ago or something. Irritating!
Anyway, we all got back to Camp 1 in each of our 1 pieces.
We were waaay off time so we sprayed ourselves with water, cleaned the muddy kayaks, knocked my shin on a kayak by accident, slapped powder and deoderant all over ourselves and changed into dry clothing.
Although the plan was to trek to our "wilderness" campsite and pitch tents and cook dinner before dusk, we were a few hours behind schedule. Without a choice, we had to have dinner at Camp 1 first before trekking in the dark to the campsite.
Trekking in the dark for about an hour or so. Pretty amusing heehee. We were all talking about the Pulau Ubin "Oily Man" and it's sightings, and I had a disco-torch that provided much entertainment HEEHEE.
Raced tent pitching in the dark with Tenzing. Managed to get 45mins extra sleep time :D
Slept on rocky ground that night. Innovatively used a rock near my head as a pillow. Smart yes? :D
Had a few rounds of "Oily Man" jokes going on. Funny!
Had a few dumb questions shooting around also. =.=" I sure do hope no one misunderstands.
Embarassing much!
DAY QUARTO.Land Expedition!
Packed all our sheez into the bagpacks again, to carry like, 10kg bagpacks for 6 hours trekking in Pulau Ubin to look for 4 original checkpoints. There were 9 checkpoints to find in total. Raleigh took 4, Tenzing took 4. The last one was for the group that reached the meeting spot first - which was us, RALEIGH! :D
Legs and shoulders and back completely died okay! Bagpack super heavy, and perspired a damn lot so had to keep drinking water hahaha. Had to apply counter pain, and although it stung like a bitch at first, but it was OH-SO-SHIOK later HAHAHA.
I was SO RELIEVED when it all ended! Finally no need to walk with heavy bagpacks under the burning hot sun! :D
We had to play the Standing-on-the-Tub-and-then-have-to-move-it-out-under-us game again. Although we managed to turn the tub around under us in the end, we all took super long can! O.o!
Anyway, walked a short distance back to Camp 2, where we were FINALLY able to have a proper bath. :D
Packed the stall, washed ponchos and stuff like that.
Mei Sze and Shahid had to leave us because of Hari Raya Haji the next day.
Had a dinner of fresh rations! :D
Raleigh cooked Omelettes with long beans and onions, rice with apples and raisins (damn awesome MUST TRY!), canned luncheon meat and soup with chicken stock and cabbages and pretty carrots (super nice MUST TRY ALSO!)! :D
Had such a great dinner wowweeeee!
Pitched tents again, at the top of the hill. Had a few rounds of ghost stories, freaked Joel out so bad he began shaking like a leaf! O.o!
Said goodnights, and managed to sleep well that last night there. (:
LAST DAY!I don't know whether to be happy or to feel extremely sad.
Unpitched tents, had morning PT and breakfast after. Washed all the ground sheets and ponchos and packed the stalls. Instructor Jasmine came to oversee us all, and to play a final round of games and to have morning circle with us.
Thenafter, left Pulau Ubin back to Punggol Jetty to go back to HOME SWEET HOME! :D
WHOOOSH THIS WAS A LONG POST I COMPLETELY ENJOYED OBS TTM AND WHOOO I LOVED IT SO MUCH. :D
I hope everyone else enjoyed it as much as I did. (:
Oh man, it's 1am! Seeya guys around!
